Chess. And more. Empty
PostSubject: Chess. And more.   Chess. And more. EmptySun Jul 14, 2013 7:00 pm

Sitting down at the offered Table Volke looked at the board calculatingly. This was something that he could...understand shall we say. He would tolerate it. To say it peaked his interest would perhaps be going to far. But it was the closest thing he had to a substitute for a fight being that he was unfortunately not called away to fight this day. As it was his ally was also apparently not very busy. The boredom had become so intense that even Volke had willingly and wantingly engaged in this game.

Soo Young had had come into the room and without a word began setting up a board of chess. Volke noticing no one else in the room decided that apparently he was supposed to play with her. Looking at the game he decided to join her.

She had chosen the black pieces and allowed him to make the first move being that he would receive the white. He was foreign to these situations but from what he remebered people normally talked or something when together.

So moving his knight which was on his right up two spaces and then one to the left he also asked her.

"So what is it that you do in your spare time? Besides terrorism of course."

Soo Young was bored plain and simple. Normally she'd be planning ways to get around Steeler's watch dog Brandon Cole. The man had followed her closer than her own damn shadow did at most times. Ensuring she wasn't doing anything to sabotage VWAT's mission. Not that she had the means to do so available there was only so much she could do especially when Steeler had demolition experts remove everything that could be used to make explosives from her room.

For hours she'd been going about carrying around her chess board one of the few things she was allowed to keep. Challenging soldiers and convicts alike to Chess and thoroughly kicking their respective asses. And by now she was yearning to find an opponent that could challenge her.

As she walked into the Rec Room the only person present was Volke the cyborg. She'd worked with him a few times he was cold and calculating with an unhealthy obsession with some book or movie she didn't know what. However she knew he was strategic and that was what she wanted from an opponent. As they started the game she chose black she'd always chosen Black.

It made it easier to predict an opponent's strategy from their first move. From there she'd develop a counter strategy. As he moved his Knight she moved her pawn 2nd to the left up by two spaces. Her eyes drifted upward as he spoke. "Terrorism isn't a hobby..." She said simply as she looked back down at the board.

Volke listened intently to her words and what was more what those words implied about her personality. Her personality would dictate her mentality. Her mentality would determine her actions. And her actions would determine her strategies. Or so Volke believed. So far. He had not really collected a whole lot. Aside from the point. He took a moment to concentrate and to plan out a thorough strategy. The key to chess was taking the win early in the game. A plan that would probably take at least four testing moves to come together. But after this. A strategy could be performed.

Volke Moved his other knight in the same pattern only this time he moved it to the right one space as apposed to the left. As he did this he glanced up at her and asked.

"Not exactly my question but still an interesting response. If you don't mind I think I shall ask you two more. So what is terrorism to you? And Aside from chess. What else do you enjoy?"

In all honesty Volke was barely curious. He would like to know about her as much as possible sure. But that was mainly because it would allow them to operate better during missions.

Soo Young didn't raise her eyes to meet her opponent's gaze as she stared at the chess board. "Terrorism is a goal..." Soo Young said her voice betraying no emotion or motive as her hand hovered over different pieces before moving onto a separate piece altogether. Her mind was more focused on the task in front of her but her focus made her tongue looser than usual. Most of VWAT had tried to learn of her only to be shut out before the question could be asked. She glanced up briefly to answer the second half of her question her eyes devoid of any emotion or feeling.

"You ask too many questions..." Soo Young said her walls rising up to shut out this intruder into her business. Her hand finally settled upon her right Knight moving it up to the left by two spaces and crossing her arms waiting for her new chess partner to make his move. Her eyes surveyed the board much like a General surveyed a battlefield. For months her mind had been unable to express it's tactical thought properly. Hopefully this match would allow her to release some of the pent up thoughts in her mind.

Volke watched as she moved her knight getting a feeling for her strategy a little bit more than before. Once again processing her words he began to contemplate his next move. He decided that learning about her would be more interesting than actually winning this game. In order to do that. He would need to make her think.

Volke moved his knight which was on his left up two more spaces and one towards the other knight. He strategy becoming aggressive yet conservative. He hoped the sudden lunge for her knight with his might throw her for the tiniest of loops. Which might give him the tiniest of entrances. Waiting until after he had moved he responded to her.

"Don't get used to it."

Then leaning his head upon his palm with his elbow against his knee surveying this board game intently he also said to her.

"So what is your goal?"

However the way he asked the question with such an intense gaze on the board made it sound almost like he could have been asking her about this game which they were playing.

Soo Young watched Volke's strategy with little interest he was falling into the same trap all her opponents fell for. All of them assumed that she had a strategy when in reality she was adapting to each of her opponents moves. She had no intent on ending this encounter quickly it wasn't how chess was meant to be played. She dragged it on and her opponents would get eager to end it quicker making moves that were reckless or pointless.

However she had a feeling that Volke would be a different type of case. The man had no care for time the two of them had plenty of time to waste on pointless vices such as this. As he moved his Knight she kept note of it's position before moving a piece to counter the move. Each of her movements were just reactions not strategy. Strategies could be predicted or countered. Reaction was unpredictable and sudden giving the user a measure of freedom with their play style.

"My goal...is none of your concern..." Soo Young said simply waiting for Volke to make his next move.

Volke watched her moves and almost smiling invented the perfect strategy to beat her. He would move his knight to a safe place and later bring out his Bishops. His pawns would advance forward and judging by her strategy she would simply make the best move at the time with zero overall strategy. Volke would have scoffed if that would not have meant breaking his poker face. He would play around her judgement and always be three steps ahead of her. Even then he would have to play it safe. In case she did something that was not the actual calculated best move on the board just to throw him off. If she was smart. Yes. She would do that. Volke would not open himself or take any unnecessary risks. But for now. The knight. He retreated it to a safe where it would not interfere with the bringing out of his bishops.

Still in his relaxed position he told her.

"At the moment. You are my only concern. For my only goal is the act of battle. If we are forced to work together I will need to know about you as much as I can in order to operate at maximum fighting ability. Who you are? This is important. It will affect your moves. Your reactions. I will need to know these. So in truth. Your goal is quite literally at the moment my only concern in the world."

Volke was aware that much of what he said was probably a play on his own thoughts about this chess game. But he did decide to change his strategy a little from his earlier gambit. If she would not comply he had another trick up his sleeve. He would make a bet. If he won this game? She would tell him about herself. He did not know what she would want in return but he had a feeling that he would soon find out.
